International Day for Biodiversity 2022: What You Need to Know

International Day for Biodiversity 2022: The United Nations has designated May 22 for this day.

Biodiversity is a broad phrase that refers to the diversity and variability of life on Earth. It is self-evident that the balance of the ecological world is necessary for survival. Every year on May 22, International Day for Biodiversity commemorates the value of biodiversity.

The purpose of the day is to raise awareness about the environment and all the species that live on this planet. It encourages people to identify and resolve similar concerns and problems.

Humans, the most developed species on the planet, tend to overlook its importance. Behind development or progress, some man-made activities destroy biodiversity. And now is the time to take notice of the people and contribute to making the world more welcoming for all kinds of life.

Theme

“Building a Shared Future for All Lives” is the theme of 2022 International Day for Biodiversity. The theme was chosen to continue the pace of development and to support the post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework at the upcoming United Nations Conference on Biodiversity (COP15).

History

In December 2000, the UN General Assembly designated May 22 as the International Day for Biodiversity. When the United Nations convened its “Earth Conference” in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1992, special emphasis was placed on environmental protection and protection. Thereafter, Biodiversity Day was observed until December 29, 2000, when the date was changed to May 22.

Significance

This day is very significant in today’s world, given the way we live our lives. It is the biodiversity that not only provides a habitat for many species of the world, but also serves as a source of food, water and other resources that we rely on for improvement. It takes time to understand the value of biodiversity and acknowledge the problems.
