In a solo protest on Friday, a woman opened the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival to reveal her body painted in the colors of the Ukrainian flag with the words “Stop our rape.”

Wearing red-striped underpants, the protesters shouted and posed for photographers before being escorted by security guards.

The stunt briefly interrupted guests at the evening parade, including Tilda Swinton and Idris Elba, who attended the premiere of George Miller’s “Three Thousand Years of Longing.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said last month investigators had received reports of “hundreds of rapes” in areas occupied by Russian troops, including sexual abuse of minors.

Zelensky, a former actor, launched a video appeal for help for his country at the opening ceremony in Cannes on Tuesday.

The fight, including a special screening on Thursday of a documentary “Mariupolis 2” by Lithuanian director Mantas Kevedaravicius, who was killed in Ukraine last month, has already become a major theme of the festival – reportedly in the hands of Russian forces.

Ukraine’s troubled filmmakers will have a special day in the art market on Saturday, with one of its most promising directors, Sergei Loznitsa, showing the “natural history of destruction” in the bombings of German cities during World War II.
