Gianni Versace’s former townhouse in Manhattan has sold for $ 70 million.
The late fashion designer bought the seven-bedroom palace in 1995 and completely renovated the interior, according to the list of Sotheby’s International Realty.

The palace, built in 1950, allows buyers to “live like royalty” and “own a piece of real estate and fashion history,” the list said.

Boasting 17 well-appointed rooms spanning six floors, the property overlooks the boundaries of Fifth Avenue and Central Park.

The floors are of Italian marble and Austrian wood. There are five fireplaces, painted walls and ceilings and mosaics.

“Versace’s talent and vision are revealed on the first 4 floors, each presenting a legendary taste of the designer and entering the house,” the list adds.

Each floor of the palace has a different theme.

The entrance opens into the gallery with a marble staircase and a decorative Greek key pattern border, and at the garden level there are hand-painted canvas walls inspired by an English neoclassical manor.

The third level has a 19th-century Versace restored panel from a Florentine palazzo, as well as a vault-like roof in the Sistine Chapel.

The upper floors offer a double bathroom spa described in the list as “one of the largest in the city,” and the bedroom on the fifth and sixth floors of the house and a Moroccan-style media room.

Versace is one of the most influential figures in 20th century fashion.

He appeared in Milan in 1978 with his first independent collection and established his brand with his brother Santo and his sister Donatella according to the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

Her designs are known for their seductive silhouettes and theatrical flair, and have been worn by pop culture royals, including Naomi Campbell, Jennifer Lopez and Elton John.

Versace was shot dead in 1997 on the steps of his Miami Beach villa. Since her death, Donatella has been leading the creative vision of the Versace brand – now under US company Capri Holdings, which bought the label in 2018.
