Group of Millionaires Protest Against Davos Meeting, Say “Tax Us Now”

World Economic Forum 2022: Group of Millionaires Protest Against Davos Meeting, 'Tax Us Now'

The Davos Summit is being held in person for the first time from May 22-26 during the Covid-19 epidemic.

The annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos is currently underway for the first time in the summer months. The annual gathering of the world’s political, economic and business elites is traditionally held in January at the beautiful snowy backdrop of the Swiss Ski Resort in Davos.

The meeting of these economic heavyweights is being protested by an unlikely group – the Patriotic Millionaires. The group of billionaires is calling on world leaders to introduce new taxes on the world’s richest people to tackle the “cost of living scandal in multiple countries”.

According to GuardianPhil White, who is part of the group, said, “As the rest of the world collapses under the weight of the economic crisis, billionaires and world leaders are meeting in this private compound to discuss the turning point in history … It is offensive that our political leaders Listen, those who know the least about the economic impact of this crisis and many of whom pay notoriously low taxes. The only credible outcome of this conference is to tax the richest and now tax us. Tax the delegates at Davos 2022. “

The theme of this year’s event is “Working Together, Restoring Confidence”, which WEF hopes will give leaders a chance to take stock of the state of the world and formulate policies for the time ahead.

“Agenda recovery will include epidemic recovery, tackling climate change, building a better future for work, accelerating stakeholder capitalism, and using the technology of the Fourth Industrial Revolution,” the statement said.

Patriotic millionaires, however, do not believe it will help. According to Guardian, Jafar Schalchi, a Danish multimillionaire engineer and property developer, said: “You can’t win people’s confidence with an event like Davos, where the rich and powerful of the world meet behind a level of security. The most important thing that participants in Davos can really do to gain the trust of the people is to acknowledge that the resources and privileges they represent and protect are incompatible with a world where everyone can live a full and prosperous life. “
