Earlier this month, a Russian court extended the detention of WNBA star and two-time Olympic gold medalist Greener until at least June after his arrest in February.
According to Russian authorities, Greener had marijuana in his luggage and was charged with significant drug trafficking – a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
“I was numb. I couldn’t move, and then I said, ‘You have to get up now.'” Cheryl Greener learned of his wife’s arrest on ABC’s Good Morning America.
Greener added that he communicated with his wife in a “sporadic, here and there” letter and wanted to talk “absolutely” with US President Joe Biden about the situation.
“I just keep hearing that he has the power,” Greener said. “He’s a political pan, so if they hold him because they want you [Biden] To do something, then I want you to do it. “
U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has previously said that the State Department is working day and night on the case, and should not hesitate to reach out to Cheryl Greener if she does not receive anything.
However, Greener said he did not know if his wife was a priority in the way Blinken described it.
“I don’t know,” he said. “He said he’s the highest priority, but I want to see it. I want to see if I can see BG on US soil. At the moment, I don’t even know who I will get back when he returns.”
